How to install a Dell laptop touchpad, it is easier than you may have thought.
Is your Dell laptop palmrest or touchpad not working? Whether you need to replace a non working palmrest or a cosmetically damaged unit, the installation is quite easy to perform. First, you will need to determine which Dell laptop touchpad you need. You can find this information by searching for the model of your laptop. You can usually find the model number underneath the laptop itself. If you have already removed your touchpad, look underneath the unit and you will find a bar-coded label with a part number underneath. This is the part number and can easily be found by searching for it online. Once you order and receive your palmrest, all you will need is a set of precision grade screwdrivers. Turn your laptop over, and remove all the screws that are labeled with a P. This letter stands for palmrest. Once you remove all the screws, turn the laptop back over and remove the power button plastic bar. By removing this bar, you will gain access to the keyboard. Remove the keyboard as well and you will expose more screws that hold the palmrest in place. Many Dell laptop parts vendors can help you if you are unsure as how to install it yourself. You will also need to remove the data cable connecting it to the motherboard. Once you do this, you can completely remove the touchpad. If the palmrest does not budge, confirm that you removed all of the screws. Also check to see if you need to remove the LCD screen as well, as some Dell units call for this to be done. You will not require any drivers once you finish installation, as these parts are plug n play.
